Who Are We?

The Southeastern Archaeological Conference is made up of archaeologists working in the southeastern United States and with descendant communities who lived in this region in the past, or who currently live here. The region typically includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Border states of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia are also often included.

The purposes of the Southeastern Archaeological Conference shall be to promote and
stimulate interest in the archaeology of the southeastern United States and neighboring areas; to serve as a bond among those interested in this and related subjects; to publish and to encourage publication; to advocate and to aid in the conservation of archaeological sites, collections, and data; and to encourage an appreciation and support of archaeological research.
