The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is hiring for two positions:

Grant Curation Specialist- The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) is seeking a grant curation specialist to serve in the archaeology section of Historic Preservation. This individual oversees the assignment, management, and tracking of curated state collections and ensures compliance with NAGPRA. They also play a crucial role in identifying, registering, and safeguarding archaeological sites owned by the state of Mississippi. It is a one-year grant-funded position that may have the potential for extension. Primary responsibilities include cataloging, cleaning, documenting, photographing, and rehousing archaeological collections, and ensuring these collections meet the 36CFR79 standards.

State Curations Manager- The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) seeks a state curations manager to serve in the archaeology section of Historic Preservation. This individual manages, assigns, and tracks curated state collections and ensures compliance with NAGPRA. They play a crucial part in the identification, registration, and protection of archaeological sites owned by the state of Mississippi. Key responsibilities include directing the curation and conservation of state-owned collections following 36CFR79 regulations, collaborating with tribal partners and the public for research requests, fulfilling duties under NAGPRA, and addressing public inquiries regarding state-owned collections. This individual maintains the state-owned database by inputting, querying, and maintaining spreadsheets. This individual develops and oversees priorities for processing state collections in coordination with the Director of Archaeological Collections; attends to collection needs like artifact cleaning, cataloging, photographing, and rehousing; works alongside other staff members to ensure consistency in data; and fulfills other assigned duties as assigned.
