At the recommendation of the SEAC Public Outreach Grant Committee, the 2023 grant has been awarded to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) 2023 Archaeology Summer Series. The committee felt that this proposal, which was submitted by Meg Gaillard, provided an outstanding opportunity to introduce a large number of students to the concepts and practices of archaeology, and to leverage collaboration through a community partnership with the Brookland-Lakeview Empowerment Center's 21 Century COLA Program.
With SEAC funds, SCDNR will provide a no-cost, four-part archaeological education summer series to K-12th grade learners. Students will be able to engage in hands-on and lab-based activities like "Pottery Re-Fit" and "Experimental Archaeology." Information on the series, and pre-registration, is live. Registration will open on 1 May 2023.
