Project Director, Louisiana Public Archaeology Lab, University of Louisiana at Lafayette

The Louisiana Public Archaeology Lab at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is looking for a lead archaeologist to direct a collaborative study of Coushatta migration and settlement in Louisiana. In partnership with the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, the Louisiana Public Archaeology Lab is planning to document and evaluate culturally and historically significant places associated with the Coushatta in Louisiana. The Project Director will conduct background research, archaeological survey, and the testing of selected sites. Responsibilities include collaborating with the Coushatta Tribal Historic Preservation Officer and Principal Investigator in achieving the project goals, directing interdisciplinary archaeological, historical, and ethnographic research, producing a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database and technical reports, supervising archaeological fieldwork, serving as instructor of a UL Lafayette archaeology field school, and providing professional training to members of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana.
Qualifications:
The Project Director must have an M.A. or Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related discipline, with demonstrated expertise in archaeology and GIS. Preferred qualifications include experience in historical archaeology, ethnoarchaeology, and Native American consultation. Pending administrative approval, the annual salary for this full-time, non-tenure track, two-and-a-half year appointment at UL Lafayette is $45,000, plus benefits.
