Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications for the position of Curator, Center for Archaeological Investigations (Associate or Senior Scientist, 12 month, 50% FTE, A/P appointment), and Associate or Full Professor, Department of Anthropology (9 month, 50% FTE tenured faculty appointment).
Applicants must have a PhD in Anthropology or a closely related field with a research focus in Archaeology or allied field. Must have academic qualifications consistent with appointment in the Department of Anthropology at the rank of associate professor with tenure or professor with tenure. Area and topical specialties are open, but preference is for New World and specialties that complement those of the existing department members; both historic and prehistoric archaeologists are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must have the ability to contribute to the Anthropology Department’s four-field undergraduate and graduate programs via active teaching, research, student mentoring, and public outreach programs on the SIUC campus, within the local community, and on social media. College or University-level teaching experience strongly preferred.
Applicants must have demonstrated curatorial experience including but not limited to the supervision and training of graduate student assistants, undergraduate student workers, and other employees in the analysis and curation of archaeological materials and records. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of successfully obtaining and completing grant and contract-funded research projects in a university, museum, government agency, or CRM setting with a commensurate record of report and peer-reviewed publications.
Applicants must have strong leadership qualities, administrative expertise, and the ability to foster collaborations between the CAI and the other units within and beyond the University. As curator, the individual will have responsibility for administering the CAI curation facility, maintaining and updating the CAI NAGPRA inventory, overseeing the care of human remains and funerary objects, expanding the CAI’s role in research and training, and conducting and publishing their own research.
