The University of West Florida Archaeology Institute is seeking a Collections Manager to oversee the curation of archaeological materials at UWF’s Pensacola campus. Primary responsibilities center on care of the collections and collection facilities under current disciplinary standards and best practices. UWF’s collections management policy will be adhered to and updated as needed. The Collections Manager will ensure UWF’s compliance with federal and state regulations, including NAGPRA.
The Archaeology Institute supports archaeological research on prehistoric and historic materials, particularly from the early Spanish, British, and American colonial eras from the broader Pensacola Bay region. Close collaboration with faculty in both the Archaeology Institute and the Department of Anthropology is expected, particularly in regard to digital database development and active field, conservation, and collections research projects. Collaborations with UWF’s Historic Trust and the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN) can also be expected. The Collections Manager will direct the activities of student assistants and volunteers and directly train graduate students under a collections assistantship program. The Collections Manager reports to the Director of the Archaeology Institute.
