Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. emphasized the importance of economic justice in the fight for equality and racial liberation. Today we are announcing a partnership between Archaeology in the Community (AITC) (https://www.archaeologyincommunity.com) and the Southeastern Archaeological Conference (SEAC) (https://www.southeasternarchaeology.org) . This partnership recognizes the need for archaeological expertise to assist African-American communities in identifying historic resources in their communities (including but not limited to cemeteries) and the need for African-American communities to assist archaeologists with community-specific expertise and knowledge to contribute to a fuller historical understanding of African-American historical experiences.
SEAC is calling on members and other interested parties to voluntarily share their knowledge and expertise. This knowledge and expertise can include the following types of work: geophysical, genealogical, documentary research, archaeological (survey, excavation, analysis), report-writing, and grant-writing. If you are willing to volunteer your time and efforts, please fill out the questions below. AITC will distribute the list as needed to interested African-American communities.
