Position – Assistant Professor of Archaeology, University of South Carolina

The Department of Anthropology at the University of South Carolina-Columbia seek an anthropological archaeologist for a tenure-track assistant professorship beginning August 16, 2022 with a focus on African Diaspora in the Americas or Atlantic Africa. Scholars whose research, teaching and service interests intersect with (post)colonialism, slavery, post-emancipation studies, race, or modernity/modern life are especially encouraged to apply, though the position is open regarding methodological expertise. Ideal candidates will also have the ability to contribute to our ongoing research and service addressing anti-racism and diversity/inclusion matters. The program provides all students grounding in four-field anthropology and is committed to social justice. A scholar skilled in the culture, history, and theory of African descendants could assist local scholars, students, and historical site stewards in preserving heritage in a state with one of the largest African American populations.
