The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a full-time (9 month), tenure-track position at an open rank, in Southeastern North American archaeology, beginning August 15, 2017. Those with specialization in contact period or historical archaeology are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates must be committed to four-field anthropology. Applicants should possess an earned doctoral degree in Anthropology but ABD’s near completion of the degree will be considered. Applicants should be prepared to teach existing undergraduate courses, such as Introduction to Archaeology & Biological Anthropology; to develop upper-division courses within their own specialization; and to engage and mentor undergraduate students in field and laboratory research. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a research program, develop interdisciplinary research collaborations, and actively seek external funding for research support. Developing a local research track is particularly important for local field school courses. Applicants should provide evidence of research success and a strong commitment to teaching excellence.
