Position – Director and Associate Professor

Position Title: Director, Center for Archaeological Research, and Associate Professor

Department: Sociology and Anthropology

The University of Mississippi invites applications for the Director of the Center for Archaeological Research, housed in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. This is a tenure-track, Associate Professor position beginning August 2015. The successful candidate will oversee the Center for Archaeological Research and teach half time in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. The applicant must be a Southeastern archaeologist with a Ph.D. in anthropology and four-field training. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of external funding, including grants and contracts, experience in cultural resource management (CRM), and a strong publishing record. Experience teaching and interacting with students will allow the successful candidate to be fully integrated with the academic mission of the department. In addition, a background in GIS and geophysical remote sensing or a willingness to develop these skills would allow this person to take advantage of the large inventory of geophysical survey instruments belonging to the Center as well as a broader range of research opportunities. In early November, we will be conducting screening interviews either by phone or at the Southeastern Archaeological Conference.
